The Youth Support Service
The main aim of the Youth Support Service is to widen horizons for all young people.
This will be achieved through the delivery of a service which will contribute to:
- Increasing young people’s knowledge and skills, including:
- Accredited learning which can contribute to the Foundation Learning provision
- Non accredited informal learning
Developing young people’s personal and social well-being, including:
- Developing personal skills related to being a responsible member of the community, including the promotion of volunteering
- Developing independent living skills
- Promoting emotional and physical health
Raising young people’s participation in learning, including:
- Provision of impartial information and advice on learning and career routes
- Careers guidance
Empowering and enabling young people to engage, including:
- Raising young people’s aspirations
- Encouraging young people’s involvement in democratic processes
- Providing a voice for young people
Safeguarding and protecting young people
The Youth Support Service will also support vulnerable and disadvantaged young people through:
- Early intervention and targeted support
- Tailoring provision to meet the needs of vulnerable groups
- Improving access to specialist support
Targets
The Youth Support Service will contribute to the achievement of outcomes related to the following:
- Reducing the negative impact of young people’s substance misuse
- Reducing the rate of teenage pregnancies
- Improving the sexual health of young people
- Preventing first time offending and re-offending by young people
- Increasing the numbers of young people remaining in learning after the age of 16
- Reducing the numbers of young people aged 16-18 that are not in education, employment or training
