Advice for your Child in Education

You have a guarantee through the government IAG Strategy to be able to access to a careers service which provides you, as a parent or carer, with specific information about subject and careers choices in order for you to be able to give your child informed careers advice.

What help and support can you and your child expect if your child attends a Schools Colleges or other education providers?


Answer

As a parent or carer you can expect the following level of support:

  • All schools and colleges and other education providers have Connexions Careers Advisers attached to them
  • Connexions Careers Advisers are there to provide independent, impartial information, advice and guidance on the full range of education, training and career options. Where appropriate they will also link you and your child with other support agencies
  • Ways of working can include individual guidance interviews, work with small groups or classes and attendance at events such as Options evenings and Parents Consultation evenings
  • If your child has a careers guidance interview with one of our Connexions Careers Advisers, he/she will have the chance to explore opportunities and talk through future plans
  • At the end of the guidance interview he/she will agree a written Action Plan with the Careers Adviser. He/she is encouraged to share this with you in order that you can support them to take the next steps
  • Extra help will be provided for those students with additional needs
  • Careers Advisers welcome the opportunity to work with you and your child. Please contact your local Connexions' team if you wish to make an appointment
